It's definitely intended to be uplifting. It's about developing independence outside of relationships. It just doesn't sound like a breakup song because it has the melody and tempo of a demo track for a limbo class. Not that there's anything wrong with Ace of Base or limbo.

I always read "no one's gonna drag you up to get into the light where you belong" as an expression of the liberated self. But thinking back on it I suppose the use of second person to refer to the unnamed ex is too consistent, so your interpretation also checks out.

yeah that's the one line that seems pretty inspirational and i guess it's a big message that should be taken away from it but man the rest of it is just really salty to the point where i almost don't want to like it? but i do i think what makes it weird for me too is that it's coming from the same band that put out "beautiful life" if anything it makes "the sign" seem EXTRA salty
is that a point in favor of limbo or against it 'cause that cruise was really messed up
that was the first cruise i've ever been on and i never want to do it again it's a shame we apparently have no choice in the matter maybe next time it'll be a train ride like the hogwarts express but sexier
